Patient privacy, security, and accessibility are key issues in delivering medical care. Las Colinas Medical Center challenged the design team at azimuth : architecture to address
these immediate needs while maintaining the open, light, welcoming feel of the hospital
lobby and admitting areas. Patients and visitors are guided to the Registration/Concierge
desks by the large arc that sweeps through the space. The arc design is incorporated
in the floor pattern, ceiling detail and architectural elements. Strategic privacy walls
slice through the arc, creating comfortable, secure areas for patients to discuss
their medical needs. Since the Lobby and Admitting Area bridges the Emergency
Department and the General Hospital, azimuth provided seamless coordination of the
finishes represented in both spaces. The design team successfully reconciled these
finishes by incorporating a serene palette of neutral walls, dark woods, and natural
stone flooring. Texturized walls, specialty lighting and metallic signage afford a unique
touch, and enable the experience of each space to be appreciated in its own right.
